Govt to relax equity dilution norms for insurance firms

    The government is likely to soon relax the norms for dilution of stake by Indian promoters of insurance companies, a move that will pave the way for Reliance Life to sell a 26 per cent stake to Nippon of Japan.

    “We will soon issue a circular which will enable insurance firms to dilute promoters’ stake though permissible means before 10 years of operations,” official sources said.

    The proposed order will help remove the ambiguity of Section 6AA of the Insurance Act.

    A strata of young, physically fit workers have always skipped employer health benefits they view as an unnecessary cost. But insurance agents say a growing number of older employees and even families are trying to save money by switching to low-priced health policies they buy on their own.

    WI Making Mistake with Adjustments to Auto Insurance Minimums?

    Many states have examined their minimum requirements for auto insurance coverage. A majority of these states have increased their requirements or have lowered them slightly in order to give drivers some relief. The state of Wisconsin is taking the radical step by lowering their minimum requirements by half. Drivers in the state will now be required to have $25,000 in liability coverage per person and $50,000 for each accident. The new law was instituted in response to drivers wanting lower car insurance premiums. Drivers who have poor driving records will save a lot of money each month on their car insurance premiums but people with excellent driving records will barely see a change in their insurance premiums and they will have half as much coverage.     Landlord building insurance: constraints

    Landlord building insurance holders hoping to build their own or invest in new builds, are currently suffering at the hands of land registry and the costs of regulation.

    At least that’s the verdict of the Home Builders Federation (HBF), this week.

    Steve Turner is head of communications for the HBF, and he thinks the rise in the cost of materials is “concerning” for many builders.

    He goes on to say however that it’s land and regulatory costs that remain the “biggest constraints on viability”.

    He says: “The materials costs will have an impact, but it is not as significant as the cost of land and the increasing regulatory costs central and local government are imposing on house builders.”

    The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that output in the construction sector dipped by 0.6 per cent in the third quarter of the year.

    Eviction specialists Landlord Action reports that housing charity, Shelter reveal that some 35,000 people could face losing their home by the end of the year through repossession.

    This action comes as cheap landlord insurance holders disclose tenants are falling behind with mortgage payments, or through eviction, as a result of renal arrears.

    Paul Shamplina is founder of Landlord Action, and he comments that this statistic should encourages landlords insurance holders to be a little more understanding at this time of year.
