UK backpackers to Thailand top travel insurance claims

British backpackers taking trips to Thailand top the number of people who filed travel insurance claims in 2009, it was reported.

Insurance firm InsuranceandGo said backpackers’ claims following a trip to Thailand account for 22 percent of all claims filed last year.

Car insurance claims soar to record numbers as heavy snow continues

Insurance companies across the UK are literally flooded with calls from motorists asking assistance to file car insurance claims which climbed to a record number during this week’s heavy snow fall.

Staff at insurance firm swiftcover.com plodded through the snow, hired 4×4 vehicles to report to work and even spent the night in the office just to take the calls from motorists. The number of insurance claims rose by 75 percent this week, records show.

Having the correct level of cover is vital during these difficult conditions and motorists are advised to check that they have the best car insurance for their needs.

Car insurance claims doubled on ‘White Monday’

The number of car insurance claims doubled during the busiest day of 2009, also called “White Monday” on December 21 as blizzard conditions sweep many parts of the country, AA insurance said.

And the AA said they expect the figure to rise further as their staff compiles all the data.

According to the AA, their Cardiff office has processed over 500 road accident claims, almost twice as many claims as would be expected on the whole of a normal winter Monday.

Drivers should ensure that they find the best car insurance deals and have the correct level of cover for wintry conditions.  Using price comparison sites such as Confused.com can often help.
